Preparing for your procedure is an important step in ensuring that the recovery process is smooth and stress-free. Whether you are undergoing breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, or any type of reconstructive surgery, understanding what is needed both pre-op and post-op is necessary prior to your stay at Pearl Recover Retreat.
Prior to your procedure, your plastic surgeon will give you detailed pre-op and post-op instructions which should be read and followed carefully before surgery. Additionally, these instructions should be brought with you to Pearl Recovery Retreat.
Prescriptions
Guests of Pearl Recovery Retreat are encouraged to have all necessary prescriptions filled before surgery; this is both cost-effective as well as comfort issue for the guest. During your pre-op appointment, be sure to ask your surgeon what prescriptions you will need post-op, including pain medications and nausea medications.
Make sure that both of those prescriptions are filled prior to your procedure. Arrangements can be made with our Preferred Network Pharmacies for any other prescriptions that you may need during your recovery phase.
Current Medications & Post-Op Instructions
If you are currently taking any other medication in addition to what your surgeon prescribes for your post-op phase, be sure to bring those with you as well. Your surgeon will need to fill out the Post-Op Instruction Order Sheet prior to surgery, and you can bring this with you to Pearl Recovery Retreat following your procedure. All medications, including your current medications related to non-surgical prescriptions, should be included in the order sheet.
Additionally, be sure to tell your doctor about any herbal supplements you are taking because some may cause blood thinning and you may need to stop taking them prior to your procedure.
Surgical Amenities
Prior to surgery, you should ask your plastic surgeon if he/she recommends purchasing any surgical garments for your recovery. If so, remember to bring these with you to Pearl Recovery Retreat. You may also purchase these items from us during your stay.
Common Pre-Operative Specifications
Guests undergoing facial surgery are advised to bring nightgowns with large openings for the neck and head area, and preferable button up pajamas to ensure initial head dressing is optimally comfortable. Female guests may also want to bring headscarves for subsequent post-op doctor’s appointments. Other tips: bring a child-size toothbrush and a zip-up track or jogging suit.
Breast or Abdominal Surgery
Guests undergoing breast or abdominal surgery are advised to wear a nightgown or nightshirt with a front opening, while avoiding any garments that are tightly fitted around the waist. This allows our nurses to closely monitor drains, and provides the guest with the most comfortable experience.
Post-Op Doctor’s Appointments
During your pre-operative appointment, your doctor will most likely schedule a post-operative appointment. If you prefer, you can call us with this information so that we can pre-arrange private transportation for you.
Don’t forget comfortable clothes, laptop or electronics.
